David's 1972 Salamanca Red LJ HM-297. I have been in possession of these number plates since I bought my first Holden, a 1951, 48-215 in 1959 and have kept them ever since. I bought my Salamanca Red LJ new in May 1972 with white interior (I thought it would bring a higher resale value when traded in , but for some reason I just kept driving it). The car cost $3100.00 with rego and extras - 2850 motor, front disc brakes, sunvisor, parcel tray, weather shield and the latest push-button radio.
In 2003 I decided it was time to give it the once over and if I had of known there was so much rust in it I probably may not have continued with it. About 17 years ago it had been caught in a flooded James Ruse Drive outside Rosehill Racecourse. But after spending so much on repairs I just thought "what the heck - lets finish it". By December 2003 the car was back on the road again and I joined the Sydney Torana Club in February 2004 having been handed a membership form at the 2003 All Holden Day. The seats have been retrimmed and new original type roof lining and door trims purchased through Rare Spares. The old 202 was given a freshen up with with hardened valve seats and a Wade 174 Cam. In 2006 cast iron headers followed by an HR X2 twin carby manifold and carbies were added. That's how she stands today.
