Ken's 1976 LX Hatchback
I purchased my Torana in 2001 after looking around for 6 months to find the right one and one that I could afford. The NRMA had just floated its shares and I had enough to buy my Torana with a bit left over for rego and insurance.
I have always wanted to do a car up and the LX Hatch was the car from the past that I fell in love with. My brother had a new one and every chance I could I would take it for a spin and my hero Brocky drove one.
It’s my mid life crisis project.
I’m a carpenter by trade and have never sprayed a car before, so I read books and asked the people in the know plenty of questions on how to do it.
My mate Steve got the PPG acrylic paint cheap and then I stripped her back to bare metal, removed all the glass ready to start. It was a great shell, hardly any rust being a country car and just a small dent to the drivers rear wheel arch. By the time it was finished I was happy with paint and the job that I had done. Not show quality but a bloody good job for a first timer. The car looks good from the outside and the only thing left to do now is the interior when I can afford it. (Ken has since won "Best Interior" at the 44th EH Anniversary Day Car Show)
